The Wye Valley Walk runs from near the source of the Wye on Plynlimon, the highest point of the Cambrian Mountains near Aberystwyth, to Chepstow at the mouth of the river in Monmouthshire. The walk opened in 1975 but wasn’t complete being only a 14 mile section, it was in 2002 that it was made a complete walk of 136 miles (219Km). What I understand from Wikipedia is that the walk here at Builth Wells was created in the 1980s and we walked part of the section from Builth Wells to Erwood and then by using our OS Map app created a good circular walk with the dog that took two and a half hours. We enjoyed views of Rhayader forest, Aberedw Hill and rolling slopes where the sheep graze and the Welsh Ponies munch on hay in their muddy fields. We crossed a small river with a ford and found lovely old farm buildings, didn’t meet any cars and heard nothing but bird song.
