A drive over the Mynydd Epynt near Builth Wells

Having moved to Mid Wales and living here only a short while we are still discovering all the area has to offer. This is a short triangular drive that gives stunning views of the hills around Builth Wells and the Black Mountains in the distance.

From Builth take the A483 towards Garth, then turn left on the B4519 to Upper Chapel, retuning to Builth on the B4520. As the road leaves Garth you begin to climb, there is a place to pull over and take in the view which when we went on a freezing and windy January day we shared with three motorcyclists.

As you reach the top the Brecon Beacons come into view in the distance. This is MOD land and as well as the hills, trees, mountains and sheep there are red flags dotted in the landscape.

On the downward road towards Upper Chapel you will find The Drovers Arms, a now abandoned pub.

This is a fairly short drive and we would have walked the dog for longer as there are several footpaths to be explored, we just thought we would leave it for another day as there is so much to explore around Builth Wells.
